Austin house explodes just before noon Sunday

Heard and felt this explosion this morning. I'm about nine miles away the location of the blast.

The Austin Fire Department is investigating what may have caused a two-story home to explode Sunday just before noon. At least a couple dozen homes have reported damages.

We are south of Bertram and heard a boom that was around the time of this explosion.

We have had two houses explode within 5 miles of our home, both times they had gas dryers that the family dog chewed on the gas line , and the owner went to the garage and the light switch set off a massive explosion

Thru the metal flex gas line? That’s tragic.

I am at the fire station in Cedar Park. I walked outside this morning and heard it touch off. I am 7.5 miles away. I looked for a smoke plume and figured any min we would get a mutual aid call. Looking at pictures there was little to no fire and probably the reason I didn't get to go to the scene.

If anyone happened to be outside doing yard work on that street they would have been sent through the air

I’m 3.5 miles away. It sounded like a sonic boom but a little different. Then I heard them responding on the scanner. How come there wasn’t any fire?

News story said they don’t have natural gas service at that house.

Interested to find out what caused it. Meth lab?

No natural gas service to the home per the article. This will be interesting to hear what caused this level of explosion? Tragic people were killed. Prayers 🙏

My guess is the water heater.

Wow I had no idea an electric water heater could have an explosion that big.

Those houses are not that close together in that area that is right off of DK Ranch Road
there are some LP gas furnaces in that area from what I remember they could have had Propane

my wife was just going to bed she works nights and we heard the BOOM, but had no idea it was a house explosion

Gas or electric Doesn't take but 1psi to blow a building out. We made a house years ago that the water heater blew up. Destroyed the rear half of the house. Bulged the rest of the walls and blew out all the windows and doors. Water heater went thru the roof and landed about 50 yards away. Someone had replaced the pressure relief valve with a plug.
