    Texas drought monitor

This year compared to last year.... Hoping these forecasted rains hit a big chunk of Texas— a lot of pastures and corn fields are needing it.

Will be an interesting spring and summer as La Niña fades and we go into an ENSO neutral pattern, which is to say a random and unpredictable pattern.

Most of the time the transition periods in the weather patterns are horribly dry.😫

That is the long range forecast. But transitions aren’t a pattern which means there will be more of a week to week look. Typically though a neutral enso means storms for the central plains and dry for the southern plains. Not favorable for us. And it’s leaning towards more east coast tropical storminess rather than gulf coast. Which is great for the coastal areas of Texas, but those tropical storms are rain makers for more than 60% of the state, generally speaking

The Corpus watershed doesn't look good in that shot. Most of last nights big rains were south and west of the watershed. Fingers crossed for today!

We had a wicked storm go over here last night and we lost power for a few hours. Rainfall was .33" Misting and gloomy here in the Hill country. Praying for rain.

1.5” between Dripping Springs and Johnson City. Went out today and ended up just piddling in the work room instead of getting out in the rain. Sure was nice to see standing water.

4.5” just east of Alice. We sure needed it bad. Pasture was grazed down to dirt. Just sold some cows last week to reduce the all ready small herd. I’ll keep the rest penned up and on feed and hay for another couple weeks and hopefully pasture rebounds a little. I’ll just keep praying that the rains are regular this year.

Much of Texas is and always has been in perpetual drought with periods of rain.

got back from Premont yesterday and over 5 inches, some areas around got 7 and that area needed it desperately. Was there for veterans turkey hunt but they needed the rains more than we needed the turkeys but still managed 4 and luckily I killed big double bearded one first morning. The rain and winds overnight was crazy Wednesday.
