Billboard has Strait at #1 and Garth at #2, but that is from 1985 - 2011.

Hank Williams set the bar for all the rest. Most of Hank's songs were his from start to finish. He released 35 songs that placed in the top ten, of which 11 were number one hits from 1947 to 1952. He died at 29 on January 1, 1953.

I believe the single most selling artist of all time is Garth, if you ever went to one of his concerts you would know why. George, Conway, Skaggs all those guys are great maybe we could do best artist by decade. Kieth Whitley would have been in that mix if not for untimely death. Willy, Waylon, Hank (jr and sr), george jones list goes on and on. I think all those guys would have argument to be best of all time.

Not only #1 in country, George Strait has more number one singles than any artist in history of an genre or format. Name any singer from rock and roll, rap, hip hop, country or anything you wish, George Strait is still the king.
