Anyone who has tried to sign up for Social security and Medicare lately, how long did it take to be approved? I signed up 9 weeks ago and still have not heard back one way or another. The website says it should be about 30 days. When I goggled online, people say 3 to 5 months. What's your experience? Thanks!

I applied for SS on Jan 3rd. 6-weeks later I was approved. Got my first SS payment to my checking account on March 12th. Note that in SS mind the March payment is for February. Go figure.
I applied for Medicare Part A June 2024 when I turned 65. Approved quickly but I don't recall how long. Applied for Part B when I retired on Jan 3rd. It was effective Feb 1st when I lost my employer coverage. I should have applied for Part B in early December (to be effectiv e 2/1/25) but I was sick with a hard case of Covid and pneumonia and over looked it.

Friend had a mess at Sherman office.....went in, got a ticket with number, called number went to window with documents and she told him no this is just to set up a phone call in a month or so, set date and time......pre DOGE, used to pre covid be able to walk right in and get some help but they got spoiled, same with DPS drivers licenses now none of them want to deal with a "customer" just chat among themselves.....same guy's drivers license was a total fiasco. They've made it extremely difficult wanting everything online and guys I deal with aren't very savvy on it, I actual order stuff for my buddy, I have his CC information saved in my phone for when he wants something, his drivers license is a whole nother story of lazy ladies at Gainesville DPS.....

Sounds like yours is lost in the mix.May need to do a personal follow-up at an office. My neighbor, brother and wife all had seamless experiences. My wife just applied last month and supposedly starts in two weeks per her contact at Social Security. We have private insurance so no idea about that side of it.
***The ONLY reason any of my contacts got theirs as it is not looking to hot for the solvency of the program over the next few years. Get it while the gettin' is good.........it is YOUR money!Last edited by Landrover; 03-23-2025, 03:27 PM.
