Deer that were originally stocked came from Avery Island in Louisiana.

True, the Avery Island subspecies is what we have but they can also be found up the coast to LA and all the way down to the coastal lands of the King Ranch. Remember the 200” buck a ranch hand killed many years ago that dressed 98 lbs?
There are actually a lot of Avery Island deer down that way now. Small bodies, small heads, short ears.
For whatever reason they do not rut as early, up the coast or down the coast. Who knows??
