    Tents

I haven't owned a tent in a long time, wondering what some of the quality ones are now in
a 1 or 2-person size? And what are some of the perks you look for?
It will mostly be just me using it but added the 2-person in case the extra room
    is a benefit.

Two person tent usually means one and a half in most cases. Last one I bought was an alps ultralight. I've used it many times and have no complaints. Anymore, I hammock camp or use my rooftop tent. I'm getting to not like sleeping on the ground anymore.

Not an auto tent but one that you pack in and out, and is pretty light, and durable. Don't want it
        ripped up in the wind.

Tarptent has some nice backpacking tents. I have the double rainbow which is roomy for 1 person, but i've used it with my oldest son on a cub scouts trip.

FULL coverage rain fly. and I believe on this subject when you get a big name brand you get better quality fabric. Lets just say that every trip with the Scouts in which a storm came up ( wind and or snow), the guys in the quality brands were dry when it was over.

When I did pack in for elk or just to backpack I had full rain fly but also sealed all the seams myself with seam sealer glue just in case. So long ago no way I would remember brands but just me and still got a "4" man tent so room for my pack and bow and not sure how they size the people to fit in these tents.......

                  A few considerations
                  * you need to figure out what season/s you will be using it
                  * will you be using inflatable mattresses?? If so, know those measurements
                  * insta-tents are very easy to setup

A buddy of mine has a Big Agnes, can’t remember which model. Thing is SUPER nice, and I’m jealous when we go to the field and he pops that thing out and I’m squeezing into my lite fighter (army issue).

Another has a Kelty or Klymit. Can’t remember which. But again, it’s very nice as well.

Going to shoot you a PM.

I think if you define your use case we could provide some suggestions, I have a wide range from a tarp to a Kodiak 10x14 and everything in between.

I’ve used the Durston X-Mid Solid 2p for two weeks at a time each of the last two years in AK. Light weight, two vestibules, and has held up great up there. I do recommend an extra 4-6 stakes than they provide, as there are plenty of staking points on the tent. I also bought their poles vs using trekking poles.

Another one that my hunting partners have used same trips each of last two years is the Kuiu Mountain Star 2p. They’ve performed flawlessly, also.

I’d have no issue buying either of these, but like others have said, a 2p tent is going to be tight with 2 people. I did lots of tent research before my initial trip and both of these were top of my list. I’d say the Durston is quite a bit lighter, while the Mountain Star seems bomb proof. Kuiu will put their tents on sale for up to 50% off a few times a year, typically around holidays…so if you’re not in a hurry I’d recommend waiting until then if you go that direction.

Like another poster said, look for a 3-4 person if you even remotely think you may need room for a 2nd body.

check out Steep & Cheap and Camofire, both usually have some decent camping gear including tents as spring arrives

A 2 person tent works for 2 people…… as long as you realize everything will be left outside, and you don’t mind sleeping opposite of each other. I’ve got a 2 person I’ve used for 15-16 years now that is my solo tent or when we’re in the kayaks and space is at a premium. I’ve got a 3 person that is my typical 2 person tent when space isn’t as big of an issue. It’s works well to sleep 2 comfortably and allow us to bring bags and shoes inside.

2 person minimum. Got my last one at REI and it is incredible 4 season as I take it to Alaska to hunt. Get the floor that fits the tent and like someone said the rain flap with vestibule is super convenient to leave un-needed stuff out of the main tent.

Go as light as you can afford but they last forever.
