Fence posts with wedge shape at the bottom question.

I saw a fence being built along 1094 between New Ulm and Cat Springs today. The wood posts were probably about 8" in diameter and did not appear any taller than 5 - 6' when laying down. There were some posts in place already. They couldn't have been more than a foot in the ground based off the difference in lengths between the ones laying down and the ones that appeared to be in place already. Is this some way of placing a post where you don't need much depth in the ground? A technique that requires the end to be tapered like a wedge? I tried to just forget
about it but have been curious. Is there something down in the ground already that the wedge fits into? Anyways, gonna visit me Ma again next week. May have to stop and take a look.

I saw that last week. I wondered if they sharpened each post by hand with a chainsaw before putting it in the ground. The part of the fence that is done looks good. My other question was how long each of those rod pieces used for the railing were.

Were they driving the posts in the ground ? I’ve seen post drivers on a tractor before and I’m sure you can get one for a skid steer.

Im not a pro but I studied a lot of different ways to build a fence. I've never heard or read anything like you are describing.

I don’t care hat the shape of the post is, only 1’ in the ground won’t last long unless it’s just a decorative fence and even then a good wind storm will have it leaning.

Don’t go blaming it on your wife. You’ve been telling her what 10-inches looks like for so long now, she’s developed myopia when it comes to judging length.

Are they putting concrete in the holes?
