    Spincast Reel

My situation- I have a catfishing trip coming up in a couple of weeks and I’m taking my nieces and nephew. Their parents as well, but nobody in the group can use a bait caster effectively. #1 learning while trying to hook them on fishing won’t work, #2 learning with my nice gear isn’t preferred. Thinking of investing in a quality spincast or two where all they have to do is push a button may be a good idea. Will any hold up to saltwater for later trips? I have zero knowledge past a Zebco 33 I used 40 years ago. Just to clarify I don’t mean what I call a spinning reel where you flip the bail to cast, but a push button and release reel.

Zebco makes a 808 Saltwater reel. We keep several at my dad's catfish pond for grandchildren. Not a bad reel for the price. It's a push button type reel.

I bought a zebco omega and a decent rod for my daughter to use bass fishing and that is a good setup. Hooked and landed a 3’ alligator gar and knew then it was a capable rig. I use it more than she does

Zero 808 or 888 would be my choice on an Ugly Stick. Priced reasonably & will last.

We fish saltwater, when my boys were little I just resigned myself to the fact I was going to be buying a cheap closed face reel every 2 to 3 trips.

Zebco mounted on an Ugly Stick.

33 will work. Just WD40 prior and after each saltwater trip.

This. I went through 6 or 7 from the spider man style to zebco by the time he was about 6 or 7 and he went bait cast. Now he's almost exclusively fly rod in saltwater

Thanks all- I ordered an 808 saltfisher because Amazon had one for $31 and I have a pile of rods sitting around. I appreciate all the advice. Hopefully i'll have a bunch of photos to share in a couple weeks with smiles and fish.

Lake Conroe. Got an RV spot next to Margaritaville which gives access to their ramp. Just work our way around the lake from there- open to any and all tips. Really need to get some fish in the boat quick to keep this crowd interested. Hit bulkheads first, assuming that bite is going by then, and then try to scope out some other structure. Got some soured grain going.
