Liked both of them Steak n Ale and Benniigans. Really liked Bennigans lunch specials and happy hour
Yep Bennigans was a good place. St Patrick's day 1982 was probably the biggest party I ever went to at Bennigans in Lafayette and my first time at a Bennigans. Was a brand new place in town. Inside was packed shoulder to shoulder you could hardly move, outside in the parking lot the party continued to the tune of about 5 times the square footage of the restaurant. The next year they added a crawfish boil and it was even bigger. Good times
There was one in Clear Lake we went to a few times when I was a kid. I remember going on my mom's birthday back in the mid-80's. Going there was a treat and I thought we were high rollers back then.
That place really did pre-date some of the popular steak house chains that exists today and some of their concepts were picked up and used by others over the years. I'm not sure what caused all of them to shutter. I assume that competition in the chain restaurant space increased exponentially in the 90's, but there probably was some bad management at the Corporate level.
The S&A on 59 South at Beechnut was a regular for us back in the day... We lived in Alief and it was "BC" (before Children)... My oldest is 42 now... My gosh that was a long time ago!!
