Texas Sized Hog Trap has come to an end

Over the years, the Texas Sized Hog trap has been a fun way to catch and kill lots of hogs but the end is in sight.

We lost that lease. It has been frustrating because we tried to buy the property but quickly backed out when we discovered there was no clear line of ownership in this heirs property. Long story, but it is completely out of my hands. I don't care to explain the details because it is confusing.

We learned a lot about deer and hog behavior. We watched the good ones come and go and sometimes they went home with us. All good things come to an end mostly because something better is coming.

Timing for this is actually really good. My now 84 year old neighbor can no longer process the pigs due to failing eyesight and asked me to start doing it. I cannot. He has taken an average of 80 pigs a year from me; many times 30+ in one day. I thought I would build a load out ramp but now I don't have to. Instead, I might build a slightly smaller version on my own property but for now we are going to watch them.

I'll see if I can dig up pictures from the past several years and post them. Dang that was fun.

As a dedicated HOG HATER, I followed your thread from start to finish. I have a 40’ corral trap that I’m going to move from my lease to my home place as soon as we get some decent weather. I have two young sows with little pigs and I think I can get them while they are young and “trap ignorant”. Click image for larger version

Tracey, thank you for all those threads you shared with us over the years! Flat out a continuing epic event. I hope you are able to do a mini-version of the Texas size trap and continue to take out more hogs... Meanwhile enjoy the break and hopefully the pigs won't expand too much and cause too much damage to your pastures until you are able to figger something out!

He gave them to the poor folks here and in the Houston area. He also smoked a bunch for church charity dinners, too. His last hog, a 130 pounder, he smoked for his 84th birthday and over 200 people attended. Grand style for sure!

I'll give him one every now and then, gutted but that's about as much as I care to do.

Dale Moser will really miss it, too.
