    Change engine oil light

    2016 F250 with the 7.3 gas

When the light comes on, is it based on mileage since it was last reset at oil change, or does it somehow know how hard or easy it's been driven?

My experience, it's based off of the mileage recommendation. It could vary from one manufacturer to another though.

I don’t believe it’s mileage. I drive a plant truck 2022 F250 with 7.3. First change light came on at 3200+/- after almost a year. It just came back on at 6500+/- after almost another year.

The computer monitors driving conditions and habits and it adjust off of that.

          How did you get a 2016 f-250 with a 7.3L?

Don't trust the light and go by an interval instead.

Me personally I change gas engines at 4500 mi4500give or take a couple hundred miles.

            Diesel. 6-7500 miles.

Make sure to top the oil off in-between. No more than 4-6 months max. Regardless of miles.

I believe it’s hours running idle time is included

To me oil is cheap an if my oil change light ever came on with these newer vehicles I'd shoot myself.

Every one I have seen is off of mileage. On some cars you can change to mileage interval to what you want it to be.

6000 miles, I got that stupid AFM 5.3 engine running 0-20W
@ 6000 it still says 40% on the meter so who knows how they engineer that, my 350 always ran 40-50w in summer time
and only problem I had was a bad fuel pump @ 180k

Vehicle dependent......I have a 2022 Toyota Camry that comes on every 7500 like clock work. I have a 2011 Tahoe that takes RPM and Engine Temperature into consideration. OP, to answer on your vehicle I have know idea.

Only truck I’ve ever had that used lots of oil was a 1998 or 1999 3/4 Ford with the 5.4 liter triton, that dang thang in a 2000 miles there would be no oil on the stick, only owned it 2 years and traded it in

I'm not sure how those computers work but rhe last time I changed the oil in my truck I put 7500 mile oil in it and it didn't start telling my my oil life was low until about 6500 miles.
