    Plumbing Question

Plan was to install the inaugural throne in my shop yesterday.

Problem #1-I cut the stub level with the floor, went to dry fit the flange, and was met with the back of the flange sitting approximately 1/4" above the finished floor and the front of the flange to be 5/8" above the finished floor. I knew the stub wasn't perfectly vertical when installed (I assume to account for drop).

Problem #2- The concrete around the stub is raised a little bit, so I know this is going to cause some leveling issues.

I don't want to bust up the concrete, so that is my last option. My thoughts, is to use a concrete grinding wheel to level out the concrete around the stub, which would expose a little more of the stub pipe. Then dremel the stub to make the flange sit level and solid on the newly leveled concrete floor.

Please don't roast me in the comments as plumbing work/repair isn't where my experience lays. I can attach photos later this evening when I get off.

    Thanks in advance.

Mount it as is. Set the toilet in grout. FYI, I’m no plumber either.

I’d do what you’re planning, try something like Scott said, or build a little platform for the toilet to sit on.

For question #2 how much is "raised a little bit"? Grinding the concrete will be dusty mess. If it is not much you may be able to chip around the stub up with a hammer and chisel easier than grinding.

Put some ceramic tile down. It might look nice, depending on your skill level, or it might not. If you haven't glued that flange on, take it off and grind a quarter inch off of the pipe. i understand that plumbers don't like to use primer for that connection so that they can break the flange loose in case it cracks in the future.

Not much at all.. I'll probably need to remove 1/16" of height 1-2" around the stub itself.

Raise it up, as mentioned. The higher the toilet, the more comfortable (within reason).
