    pulled over again

Well another LEO run in... makes 3 or 4 now within the last few months.

I was coming home from working in bastrop yesterday afternoon (came down 314 to I10).

as I get past the rest area just before seguin there was a tahoe that I noticed was a guadalupe county sherriff... he apparently just got done writing a citation and was walking back to his cruiser. I had moved over to the fast lane (and slowed a little, but didnt tell him that). I passed at about 78 MPH (in a 75)...

next thing I notice in my rear view is him gun it around the car that was pulled over and start to gain on me. "what did I do wrong" I thought.

he pulled up behind me a bit in the fast lane (I was in the slow lane). never did pass me. just sat there for a few miles. as we approach a big rig I put my blinker on and get in front of him (cop or not I was getting over, and not kicking off cruise). we pass the semi, and I get back over. Then again (this time a fellow officer of his going slow in slow lane). again i move over and pass the slow moving cruiser.

THEN, he lights me up... my cruise was set at 77 at that point (still a 75). I pull over, and swing off into the grass and cut back towards the road and roll down all 4 tinted windows before I stop (out of respect, as it sucks walking up on tinted cars with no clue who or what is inside).

This redneck Sherrif starts walking up laughing. he asked for my license and insurance. I pull my wallet, and he sees the military ID (all usaa plastic) my fish and game card etc... He then responds laughing with "who do you work for"... Kind of caught off gaurd I said "im sorry" he said well you arent from around here pulling over like that... I said oh, I just work for "x" company. he said "oh". I said I just have allot of respect for what you do, and anything I can do to make your job easier I will do. I told him plus I was in the military and it was just something I was taught to do (habit I guess)...

He says well I ran your plate and your USAA insurance didnt come up in the system. I said "ah". I need to call them and find out why. as I showed him my proof.

he handed me my license, and said have a good day! no warning/no running me/no wasting time...

Another good encounter with the LEO's, and still no tickets!... I dont know his name as I got no warning or citation, but he seemed like a cool dude!

Redneck I'm glad he was at least polite and curtious but he had no pc to pull you over. You can't stop someone based on insurance because sometimes the system is wrong. I think he just wanted to chat.

Technically, if he is on the shoulder and has his lights on, you are supposed to not only get into the left hand lane but also slow down considerably. You do not have to do so if he does not have his lights on.

The officer had no cause to pull him over? He admits his criuse was set on 77 in a 75 zone, so he was speeding. Not by much, but still breaking the speed limit.

I thought it was either/or. I always pull over and slow down.

Yeah, true and if you can't pull over to the second far lane from the shoulder, we all are suppose to slow down 20 mph less than what speed limit posted. Just so you know for next time...

As far as driving on 2nd lane or.so, drive at normal speed as the speed limit posted.

You only have to slow down if you are in the lane closest to them.

You are correct but unless he was running radar the officer would have had no clue. You have to have a violation before the stop. Admitting to doing it after the stop was made does not validate the stop. Hope that made sense.

Technically, you are wrong. It's you either move over, if the lane is available or you slow down to 20 below the posted speed limit. It's not a both A and B requirement.
