    Seward Alaska

Looking for recommendations for saltwater fishing, Seward, Alaska middle of August. Would love to catch halibut, lingcod and salmon. Thanks

I'm not a big saltwater fisherman but have fished with Angler's Lodge several times and have always had great trips out of Seward. Probably my favorite place to fish the salt. Two of their lodges are just a few minutes' walk or boat ride from my house. Used them long before I moved here and have used them since. I prefer the overnight trips they do because you get two days limits of fish and have time to actually target several species. There may be better or cheaper, but this is who I have had experience with and have yet to have anything less than a good one.

This is just from our one time going this past July, but I would not recommend Saltwater Safari. I have fished plenty of time without catching anything, but when at the end of the charter the crew has no idea that the 6 people on the back of the boat didn’t catch a single thing? That tells you a lot right there.

We had no idea where or how far you go out for big halibut and we barely went out and turned into an inlet and fished there, but didn’t seem very far to me. I asked one of the younger guys “is this where ya’ll generally catch them” and his reply was “not even close. If fishing was good here, we wouldn’t pass it up everytime”. So tried to talk to the captain/owner and his response “you guys on the back of the boat probably just didn’t have the skill of others on the boat that caught a few of the fish”.

We talked to some guys at the dock that went with the fish house and had a great time and bunch of people went out with private charters instead of the head boats.

Don’t know what your timeline is, but if you’re going around, would 1000% recommend Alaska Fishing and Lodging out of Soldotna. Our trip would have been a bust if we hadn’t met up with Ty and his operation.

Had good luck several years ago with ProFish-n-Sea Charters out of Seward.

99% of the guides are only there for the richie bass type fishermen.

I've searched years to find a hard core halibut trip that sort of mirrors the TBH 50 Hour tuna trips in November. That would be awesome. I don't want no 40lb halibut. I want huge baits way out there for 200+ pounders.

We fished with Aurora Charters on the Orion in August. Weather was pretty rough but we tucked in behind an island and we all managed to reel in small halibut for a while then went after rockfish and caught some silvers as well. The rockfish were schooling! Pretty cool seeing them fly out of the water everywhere. Don’t get a flat tire on your rental car in Seward. There’s nobody there that can fix a tire.

I live in Palmer, AK and have done a charter out of Seward and Homer. Most of the day charters do a "chicken" hole and then another spot. Everyone usually limits out on Black Bass, Halibut and a few salmon. If you really want to catch the big Halibut, you should look at an overnight charter. Its expensive, but your better off. Also, if you do a day charter, it's better to rent the whole boat (6 spots) than be on a boat with 12 people on it. I enjoy the fishing and take my kids, but if you are serious about it, it costs much more than the $375/day per person.

No halibut fishing on Friday. Plan accordingly.

Might consider booking a couple days too. Seward and Homer both cancelled about 1/2 their trips the week we went. We got lucky and got both ours in.

I fish with a charter out of Whittier around 2 hours from Seward. Alaskan 4 star. They have always provided me a great trip

Took the family up for 2 weeks last May and made some memories with J-Dock. We rented a cabin on the lake in Primrose and spent time hiking, fished, river rafted etc.

Our experience with J-Dock was pretty good. We caught our limit and I even hooked an 80lbs Halibut that I had to release. My only complaints are that they keep the cheek meat and split the catches among the fishermen. They also don't bring the fish back to the dock for the money shots, the cut them on the boat.

The captain and crew were native Texans and knowledgeable so we felt like we were in good hands.
