When should you/I add a cheek rest to my rifle?

Never really shot long long range before (nothing ever over 400 yrds), but I'm working on it.

I bought a new Remington Sendero SF II in 300 RUM. I also just got in the Vortex PST 6-24X50 FFP scope (Thanks a ton Arrowsmith!). On order (should receive them later this week) is the EGW 20 MOA picatinny rail and the Burris extreme tactical low rings. (Side note - I really hope the "low" rings give me enough clearance. This same scope, base, rings combo worked great on a Savage rifle - according to friend of a friend.)

My question is - Would a cheek rest provide any benefit at this point? If so - any suggestions on brand?

    Thanks for the feedback.

Wait until you get everything mounted up. If you have to raise your head off the stock to see through the scope, then get you a stock pack.

Yup, I didnt get good cheek placement on my rifle so I opted for a Karsten kydex model. Great cheek piece.

I was given and use a stock pad that has a side pouch for holding extra shells and a dope card. We were shown when mounting it to add padding underneath until you could cheek the stock without moving your head up or down to look through the scope.

        Really cool, I like it.
