Refugio had plenty of oil and gas jobs back in the day for good football players parents. And all we have to offer parents where I live is a job at the chicken processing plant.

NIL $$ for high school athletes - good idea?

For all the reasons stated above, I think this is a bad idea. I thought it was a bad idea for college athletes as well.
In addition to all the other reasons enumerated in this thread, I just have a real problem with providing a revenue opportunity or profit for those who are 1) getting a free education, and 2) one that is funded by my (and your) tax dollars.
I also think there would be issues related to lack of psychological/emotional maturity. It’s like children having sex: their bodies may be mature enough but the psychological maturity is developed enough to handle the associated consequence.

Who cares pay them, what does it truly matter?
you don’t think there are families pumping thousands in to best skills and position coaching already?
Ewers is a perfect example, he has had the best position private coaching in the U.S. since junior high, Same thing with a lot of NTX baseball, soccer and volleyball players
If you think it’s ever been an even playing field you are crazy. When you have a Private Schools in Texas beating 5a and 4A state champs… with 1/15 the enrollment, it’s already a paid to play. I don’t blame the parents either. Free Private school with 10x the academics as their local school, for free under a great athletic department… why wouldn’t you sign them up.
