    Bucks shedding already!

I found these 4 days ago close to the cabin. Both within 10' of each other.
This is why when we were MLD we stopped hunting around Jan 7th.

    Anyone see bucks dropping antlers?

Why would you quit hunting if MLD?

Probably didn’t want to shoot bucks that had dropped their antlers thinking they were does

I've seen one old buck that has shed both sides in Mills county.

I’d recommend a poll to compile the necessary information needed.

If that’s the case, no need to close the season. Just stop shooting does. Shouldn’t be shooting them that late in season anyway.

Unless you still need to take out a bunch of does.

Surprised they’re dropping this soon, but this has been a strange season.

We found a fresh shed in McCulloch county yesterday.

I think it depends on where you are located. We always have some start dropping +/- Christmas, but our first rut is typically end of Sept as well.

I still have one or two I am after. It is always interesting to review camera pics to see if they are hard horned. Much less, putting one on the ground only to have an antler fall off when they hit the ground or when you pull on one to drag them.

Yep I've seen a few on camera and on the hoof in Kimble Co. Not sure why but it seems its been happening this early more in the last 5-10 years or so, been on the place for over 25 years.

Dear diary, it’s January 20th 2025 and I’m still hunting does. We just noticed some young bucks dropping this week.
