ID:	27021807 Living in the country since 2020 after being a city dweller forever has given the wife and I the pleasure of seeing a few birds on our deck and property that you do not see in town. We have the normal sightings of deer, turkey, doves, snakes, 1 bobcat, horses, goats and cattle on the loose from our neighbors. The parrot showed up but did not stay long, the Cara Cara was looking for something to eat (have seen several along with a lot of buzzards) and now there is a pigeon sitting on our deck steps. It has a blue band in it’s left leg Click image for larger version

That homing pigeon is cool. We used to shoot quite a few of those in Pflugerville back in the day. Never intentional - always thought it would be a plain ole pigeon.

Probably a homing pigeon maybe even in a race. It's not unusual for them to stop for a rest in a long race. Leave him be, he'll.leave in a while.

The pigeon stayed about an hour then left. Pretty neat seeing him.

Had one of those pigeons, show up here, a couple yrs ago !
It couldn’t fly, had a broke wing. Had a band too, researched it, sent message to owner. Owner was worried sick about her. Was a one eyed pigeon, and her favorite. I returned it the next day, she showed me the amazing operation. They race those birds for Big money!

Use to raise homing pigeons as a kid. Clocked them at 70mph. Amazing birds. In a cage transporting them they would always turn to the direction of the home coop. Racing Homer's. Sold a roster 3 times. He kept coming back home. The buyers already had offspring from him and didn't want him back. If I remember right the longest race was from New York to Texas.

ID:	27022135 Do you have any quail? I have them on our place and just love hearing them call. Just like when I was a kid.

It’s pretty cool when they release those birds. I went to a release one morning between RR and Taylor. Some of the birds were from California they said.
