Steel flatbed instead of pickup bed ?

Anyone replace pickup bed with steel flatbed ? I am thinking about doing this to my ranch truck, just seems like it would be much better for what i use the truck for, it is a 2017 GMC 2500, any suggestions for beds in the DFW area ? Thanks

Yep. I did it this summer on my 2017 LWB F350. I got a CMC skirted bed (tool boxes all 4 corners) It is awesome!!!!

I did make some rails for it. Tail piece moves fwd to keep things from sliding around/off.
Easy to load/unload, hook gooseneck, hauls pallets, use as work bench, seems like so much more room.
I dont really have to tie down a whole lot, (as much as I expected to). But that has been a non-issue.

    DO IT!!

If you do not mind saying, how much was it installed, thanks

A flatbed is much more useful for a work pick up. You won't regret it and like said above, you don't have to tie down every little thing like you think you will.

I didn't put in orig. post cuz it is kinda a story.
            Ruined my orig. bed.
            Insurances check was ~$4-ish.
I found a place getting rid of their stock. (Changing business model to trailers only, no more flatbeds)
Put $1000 with the Ins check and got the flatbed for ~$5k.
            Installed it myself.
So to answer your question it was $1000.

Was getting quotes of $8k-isk - full deal in and out.

Edit: Check PM for their contact info. I did this back in Aug. and got their last Ford Bed.
I think they 1-Dodge/Chevy left, back then.

had an iron ox bed put on one of our trucks back 2-3 yrs ago now. Really like it since all it does is pull goosenecks or hauls pallets.

Iron ox offers rails of different configurations they will make and ship with the bed.

I used AW trailers in Tyler they where WAY cheaper than anyone else around for the Iron ox and it to me is better built and has held up better already paint wise etc then some of the CMs etc ive seen.

I've used several beds, and CM or custom is the way to go. Even the one I like the least (J&I bed) is a hundred times better than a regular box bed.

I have two quotes on the CM beds, dang they are proud of them but they sure look nice. 8K , that is a skirted bed for a 6 1/2 foot pickup bed, 4 tool boxes, gooseneck, tax and installation.

Best part is you can fit 2 pallets of feed.

Yes, we feed a lot of bulk but we have some feeders where we just cannot get the feed wagon to ( without tearing it up ) we also fill our corn slingers using bags, sometimes we will use super sacks but its just about as easy to use bags. I really like the fact that you can work from the bed, reach anything all around etc.

Good gravy, I haven't looked at the flatbed market recently. They want a a ton for a SWR skirted.
Pronghorn, Bradford, and HydraBed (Kansas) are some tough beds that are tested and true.

Anyone know where to get a used one? I’ve got a 2002 F-250 I’m considering doing this to for a general all around farm truck, just didn’t want to drop the jack on a new one

Kempner Equipment outside Lampasas usually has a yard full of good looking flatbeds.
