    Dog tracking training

Does anyone know someone who trains dogs to track wounded deer? I have a trainer lined up for our Jack Russell but they are 6 hours from Houston. Hoping to find one a little closer.

Just curious, how long are they telling you they need to keep your pup to get him trained up?
Is he supposed to be a finished dog when you get him or just started, and you finish him out.

I have trained a lot of them. Spending money on getting them trained is not really needed. If you can get on a lease where a decent number of animals get killed all you have to do is to take the pup to the blood and they normally figure it out real quick. Most dogs just need exposure. You cannot make a dog trail. Either they have it or they don't. If they have it you just have to get them on some blood and reward them with a pat on the head when they do right.

The program is 1 to 2 months. Phase 1 they start him on blood tracking and evaluate if he has the drive to make a good tracker. If so phase 2 would be a month at a game ranch training on actual tracks.
