    Folding Trailer Tongue Kit

I would like to make the tongue on my seadoo trailer fold. I think by shortening it, with a little luck and probably a little KY I can fit it in the toybox on my 5th wheel for weekend trips. Is adding the folding piece as easy as it seems- one cut and a few bolts? The thing is super light so I really have no concerns with strength I've just never been a part of this type of project so looking for any firsthand knowledge to avoid a mistake.

Looks like a sawsall and a drill will be all you need. I wouldn't do it on a 20ft boat but a jetski, it should be all you need. Click image for larger version

I agree. Tongue weight is probably 100lbs max, I can lift it and roll it around easily. Just seemed almost too simple.

Follow up thoughts before I order. Kits say not to use on an aluminum tongue. Once again, very minimal weight all around. Fulton says aluminum is thicker so their bolts don't work. I'm struggling to see how 8 grade 8 bolts with red loctite wont keep the thing attached.

Just tighten it good & say "That isn't going anywhere!"

Just don't forget to slap it while saying that.

Good call, I was going to jiggle it. Would have failed for sure.

A good slap works for many situations!

On a jet ski trailer I wouldn’t be worried at all.

Just put a safety chain between the two sections if your worried about it.

Most bass boat trailers come with a folding tongue kit already installed so I wouldn't worry about it even on bigger boats.

I built a removable tongue for mine. No one can run off with the trailer without the tongue.

                          Starts at post #6.
