I need to get new shocks for my Expediation. So far the places I've called want $3K ground.

What's really crazy is the front shocks are the most expensive and easiest to do. The real kick to the gonads is the shops are not replacing the struts and shocks. They want to buy the all in one part, which is less work on them. They then put the mark up on the part to do work that will be less than 4 hours on a lift.

To all those that have a repair shop. I hope your 16 year old gets pregrnant with thriplets, and the boy disappears, so you get to pay for everything. You're a F'ing thief.

Shop told me a couple years ago I needed a new engine and installed for 10k
I fixed it myself for $100 if I remember correctly. Oil pressure sensor. If I can do it myself ill.do it myself every time.

I put some VERY high end shocks and coils all the way around on my 250 for less than that lol doing the labor myself.

I did mine last year and searched for a “ good” spring compressor that is “ safe” -they don’t make one that I could afford and be safe!

I took the struts out myself , took them to our local mechanics shop along with the new “ crappy “ Bilsteins and they charged me $35 to swap everything out on both of them . I Took them back home and had them installed in 30 minutes!

i shopped around and found a deal on the bilsteins !

Chibby dealer wanted $1250 for OEM’s and all they do is pull the old one’s out and replace the whole unit .

i had $350 invested in parts!

Rather than buy the spring compressor, I'll spend a few extra bucks for the complete unit. I'll also replace a CV axle with a new one rather than replace a boot. It is less labor and the money saved is still rewarding.

Op not all shops are alike from my experience and I do 0 work on any of my vehicles any longer but no doubt shop labor is expensive and yours bid does sound excessive. That being said there are all too many that will take advantage of non informed customers.

Seems right if they didn't want the job but priced it where they would be stupid for not doing it

I try to do all my own stuff when I can. But when I can't I have a few trusted shops I use that have always treated me right

I ran into a service issue at my local Ford dealership. Dropped it off for an oil change and had them do the brakes all around. Got it back and smoke came from the front wheel. Took it back and they said the caliper hydraulic line was twisted and needing replacement. Line replaced and it drove better for about a day. Wheel started grinding. Decided to look for myself and found front pads cracked and broken caliper piston seal, which kept pads on contact with the rotor and overheat. Dropped it off again yesterday and they finally fixed it right.

What was supposed to save me time took a lot longer. I'll do them myself next time.
