This would be a cull buck

Kept getting pictures of a buck that only had spikes but looked to be 3 or even 4 years old. Between that and the fact that he may have been the meanest deer on the place put him on the list. He was the spookiest deer on the place. My wife and I have hunted a lot and have never laid eyes on him.

Until now. My wife decided to hunt a box blind that we always drive to as you can hide the vehicle pretty close. But she decided to walk instead. Not long after she got there, a little doe came walking in with the big spike right behind with his nose stuck up her butt. She let him get a little ways from the doe and that Ruger #1 in .25-06 laid him down. Click image for larger version

Congrats to her! Sure looks older than 4 in that LDP.

So was he actually a spike or did he just break off both beams at some point?

It doesn't look broke. The antlers look to just starting a fork at the ends on both of them.
