    2025 Mater season!

I know it is early but it is not that far out especially with these warm temps at the end of December.

If you want a Mater variety that will give you a lot of maters, big maters and great flavor, give the Red Beefsteak variety a try.

We have grown them the last 2 years in our raised beds with great success. Our biggest mater in 2023 was a 29 oz mater. In 2024 it was a 24 oz mater, BUT out of 4 plants, I stopped weighing all we picked at 70#’s.

They are awesome, give them a try!

With all due respect to the OP, I'm sticking with smaller tomatoes. Sun gold, etc.

Ours are from plants. We put them out when the feed store has them. Not easy to find sometimes.

Understand. We grow a lot of Porters and cherry maters.

We'll be starting our seeds here in the next couple weeks. May just have to try some of these maters. Our favorites from last couple years are Celebrity+, Roadster (for slicers), Tachi (a hybrid roma style that is VERY prolific), and Sun Gold 100's for a cherry style mater... We have Tachi and Celebrity+ going in the greenhouse from this Fall that are still producing their top crop... Have freeze dried and canned probably 100# from the fall crop. We didn't grow any cherry maters this Fall...
