    ?? Small Engine Gurus

Alright small engine gurus I have a situation and want to see what you guys think.
I have a Ironton pressure washer from Northern Tool that got gas in the oil. I think what happened is I tilted it too much coming out of the shed. I have changed the oil and got about 24oz of oil/gas mixture out of the engine.
I seem to remember tilting/tiping over being a problem with small engines or am I screwed? Also I ifnai remember correctly I started the engine but it smoked really bad so I turned it off. What's the next step? Run it a bit and then change the oil again? Thanks in advance.

I’d make sure you don’t have a stuck float causing the carb to overflow and get into the intake, which then drained into your cylinder and leaked past the rings into the oil.

After that, put new oil in that sucker and fire it up. Wouldn’t hurt to do another oil change after running for a couple minutes.

Overall, no it shouldn’t have caused any harm.

I have an old generator that makes oil. Shut the fuel petcock and let it run empty and it shouldnt do it again. If gas cant get to the moving parts it cant get in the oil.

What Chase said, float got hung up for a bit when you tilted it over. change the oil and fire it up. It’ll quit smoking in a few minutes. Keep a check on the oil, if it isn’t getting over full, no need to change it until it get black.

Think you got your answer. If it does not have one, I would put a in-line fuel cut off valve.
