Pulling a disc with an atv

Several questions on this. Do you or have you pulled a disc with your four wheeler? What brand and how many disc is it? Will you have to add weight to disc?
Shifting gears a little. Can you use a four wheeler disc setup and pull it with your 4x4 truck? Any other advice is appreciated as well

I have used the 4 ft disk harrow that has a trailer tongue hitch and rack for adding weight. Used solid concrete blocks for added weight. Used with a 4 wheeler and ranger. Works great.

4 footer disc with a Honda Recon 500. Once I figured out how much weight for different soils it did great.

Yes on the four wheeler and truck. I have used both to pull my atv disc. Weight depends on soil type.

My buddy has a Tarter 8 disc/cultipacker that I pull it with my Grizzly 550. It does fine as long as the ground is not too hard and I don't try to go too deep. The manual says to use with a machine of at least 500cc but I always worry it's putting a strain on the 4 wheeler.

Pull a kingkutter atv disc with a Polaris ranger. King cutter is offset some and discs about 32” in a pass.
if it is dry, (almost always in the panhandle) then you have to add as much weight as possible. Use cinder blocks full of concrete and some old tractor weights.
found that disking is best done by going in circles or figure 8s.

I use a Groundhog Max. It works like a champ. I beefed the hitch up on the back of my Grizzly because I was worried I might hit something hard and bend or break something.

Here is a time laps of last years food plot. My son and I did this in about 45min.

Groundhog max is the way to go with an atv or utv. Works great and can go fairly fast compared to pulling a large disc.

I have the same disc & all the above is spot on for me also. I think ATV type disc can get it done but regardless of what you pull it with, I think they work better with weight added. Naturally a tractor works better, but when you don't have a tractor, you do just make do.

Good thread guys! I have a Polaris Ranger 800 and a ATV Honda 300 and considering the same for small plots this spring.

I have had a hard time getting good results pulling a disc with a tractor. It really depends on soil conditions, especially moisture content. For where I live, I wouldn't even bother to try with an ATV. I don't know where you live. If the soil is soft where you live, you might get enough penetration to plant shallow seeds. A couple hundred pounds of ballast on the disc will help. I used fifty five gallon drums filled with water on my 72 inch disc.

How much weight for sandy loam?

That’s encouraging that it so like I won’t have to buy an 8-900cc engine to pull one. Can you buy a 600cc side by side?
