HELP me find my lost knife - USPS - Needle in a haystack

1.) I realize this is a LONG shot, but zero chance if I don't try.

2.) ANYONE here with USPS knowledge, please tell me what you know.

My son (15 at the time) had been into knife making and semi-replicated my old hunting knife from years ago and gave it to me as an early present for my birthday around October 2022. I quickly sent this knife to LeonCountySlayer for a custom sheath, but in my hurry forgot to tell Brian that I had moved from Shiner to Spring Branch so when Brian finished, he automatically sent it to my old Shiner address which he had shipped previous orders to. (Completely my fault and not Brian's).
I guess the forwarding time limit had passed and the Shiner post office returned to sender, shipping the package back to Brian in Stafford, TX (on Bluebonnet).

Here's where it got lost. Stafford PO said the package showed still at Shiner PO and Shiner PO said it showed to be back at Stafford. At the time, the tracking # did not show anything.
I have no hopes of this being resolved in any way through the USPS (especially now 2 years later).
Because of the hours upon hours of work my son put into this knife, the sentimental value is all that I am trying to recover.

Question: are lost packages like this auctioned or what happens to them???

I figure it was auctioned or stolen or something, but I would hope eventually it would hit the hands of an outdoorsman and being a one-of-a-kind, weird design, and with my son's logo, maybe there's a small chance it could be located if meant to be.

It's stainless steel, brass guard, approx 5" blade, black laminate handle, and translucent jade-colored pins in the handle. The "GUS" logo is an axis deer head. With custom leather sheath.

Tell me what you know or what could have happened to it by USPS protocol if the package had been damaged or knife came out of the package. Please share these pics with anyone who may have a clue.

I know it's a total long shot but felt led to post this here now just to see what happens. The GS has solved way harder puzzles in the past, so I figured why not!

Looks like it would have went to the USPS lost parcel center early 2023 and then probably either auctioned off in a lot or destroyed. If it came out of the packaging in TX, it could have stayed here. Oh well.....cant hurt to see....maybe someone on the GS somehow got it. Never know.....

It’s in some postal worker’s house. They stole a red dot sight from me. I can’t prove it, but everything points to the postmaster who was here then. The fool put an empty box on the counter, upside down, where you couldn’t see it had been opened. Turning it over, it was easy to see it was opened and everything was in it but the sight. Someone had taken it out of its box, put the lid back on and he tried to smooth it over by saying “Just call Amazon, they’ll send you another one”. They did, but he stole it and was transferred soon after. PO workers are like Catholic priests, they don’t get fired, they just move them around. Rant over, but don’t bring it up again !

Usually the po puts some insurance on all packages. Won't help get you knife back but you may get some cash out of them.

Not USPS but they just busted 4 UPS employees for organized theft out in AZ I think

Hope you get that knife back, long shot but it can happen

USPS lost a backpack of mine. 6 weeks later it showed up. Just file the lost package form and cross your fingers

I had a package lost by USPS. I was finally able to get a hold of a physical human being at its last known facility and she was able to physically walk around and locate it in their lost/found/pending room. But i will say it had only been lost for 1 month at that point.
