Nilgai hunt on the King Ranch

My buddy bought a hunt on the king for Nilgai from the rocky Mt elk foundation; anyway he can bring someone with him for an extra fee. I think 1000-1500 anyway I have never hunted Nilgai what can I expect?????

Take a big gun and hit them hard in the shoulder. They are tough, but are great eating, as good as anything else I have eaten. Probably the most unique animal I have ever killed. You should have a blast.

They see like a turkey and hear and smell like a deer. Take something with lots of thump. If I'm not mistaken king ranch will require a minimum of 7 mag with 180gr bullet. I use a 338 with 220gr and haven't dropped on in it's tracks yet they are super tough. Shot a young bull 400lbs twice at 70 yds a few weeks ago did not get pass through either shot. Very tough animals but a blast to hunt

It's better than beef! It has a sweet flavor and it's not gamey at all. Probably the best hunt and animal for the price. Have fun.

Ah, the Blue Cow from India. Dual stomachs like a cow, eat grasses and won't come to deer corn, but like sugar cane. Return to same dumping spot, droppings look like small chocolate easter eggs. Look for them in the Oak Mounts. When they run they gate like a giraffe and their head goes up and down. They do not jump fences, they dive underneath and sometimes catch horns and snap their necks. Head looks like a horse with horns. Brown ones with horns are imatuer bulls..you want a big blue-greyish one with atleast 7.5 inches horns or taller..Closest wild animal you'll ever eat that tastes like steak!

A four blade Muzzy lodged in the heart takes some of the toughness right out of 'em!

When are you going? February is generally their rutting period. The meat is excellent. Good luck!

X2 there are very tuff animals but the meat is great. We have them all over our place but I haven't shot one yet because I always let my buddies shoot them. Last year my buddy shot a bill at 75 yards with a 338 and it walked off like it wasn't even hit. No pass through on that shot but the cows are not as tuff.

Here's a cow my buddy shot this year off our ranch. She went 330 pounds and was mighty tasty.
