    Another nursing home post

My MIL has dementia and today while I was taking a shower she tried to go talk with her mom ( dead 40 years) luckily the delivery driver kept her from leaving the yard and called the police, we had looked at long term memory care facilities
and they are from $6000-$9000 per month depending on location , and she was fighting tooth and nail to be able to stay home, I guess she just made her own decision because APS came and said it’s time for her to move
boy howdy is this going to be a long week doing all the steps and finding the $$$$$ to pay upfront while her health care policy looks at her coverage + providing 24/7 monitoring between wife and l while waiting on a room to free up

This is the reason the wife and I converted our life insurance into long term care. It is beyond expensive period. I hope you find good care for your MIL! Wife’s Dad is in a place now.

Feel your pain, my MIL has dementia and it is taking a toll on my FIL, the primary caretaker. It has been pass the time get help with her but the retired Colonel is to proud to ask or accept help.

Hopefully, we can both navigate this and figure it out. PM me if you need to vent, hang in there.

Good luck, S-3. Definitely a rough time.

We put my dad in a long-term memory care facility earlier this year. Definitely isn't cheap. We looked at all of them in central Texas, trying to chose the best. I'll tell you this...you can't make the inside of these places pretty. You can make it shiny, but it's not pretty.

My mom visits him several times a week, never knowing which lady resident is his wife for that day. It's actually amusing.

Man I’ll pray your ordeal isn’t as bad as ours was. I’ll say this. Don’t look for the best home. Look for the next one!! We went through 5 nursing homes and 7 mental hospitals in 6 months. They all had a buy in and $6-9k was on the low end but he needed a lot of care! I think we were in the $10-11k range. You have my prayers. Horrible disease I wouldn’t wish on anybody.

We put Mom in one eighteen months ago. Managed to get a lifetime lock on the rate at $6000 per month. The facility is very nice and the staff are great. I didn't have to get into the "how to pay for it" exercise. Mom has enough investment income to pay for her care. I talked to a couple last October that have her mom in the local care center. They were a month away from personal bankruptcy before they got any help on the rate and from Medicaid or whatever program helps with this stuff. From what they were saying, I got the idea that it takes a crisis to get motion out of anyone. Best of luck working your way through that mess.

Went through this with my Mother 2.5 yrs ago and we have my MIL with us for now but she is fairly healthy physically but it seems she is showing more signs of failing each week.

prayers for guidance, perseverance and peace .

if you don’t like the care she is getting do not hesitate to find another place .

My mom had dementia and my mother in law has dementia and is in a memory care facility in Fort Worth.

It’s the best in the area and cost $6200 per month all in.

My mom and MIL were set financially and the cost is not an issue.

We were fortunate that we could cover the cost until the Long Term Care policy paid but making sure the claim was made every month was difficult. My wife had to make a call every MJ th to make sure the claim was sent and the monthly home balance was made.

                          Good luck and God Bless!

This is why securing Long Term Care insurance is so important. My Mom and my MIL both had to go to a long term care facility for some years - thank God we had policies on each of them that covered ALL of the fees and charges - IMO if you are in your 50's or older go check out finding a LTC policy -
