Sounds to me like there are two totally different stories being told, one by NWF and one by Jimmy Houston. I'm not going to choose sides because there are two sets of facts. The thought that NWF may have fabricated some of the evidence in the video is alarming, but not as alarming as if it is any similance of the truth. Additionally, just because NWF doesn't specifically say they support hunting, if you look at the things they have accomplished, I'd have to say they are seriously helping us maintain wildlife habitat. Most of those same habitats they are working to preserve also provide us with places to hunt. For that I am thankful.

I just don't get it, how can shooting a deer that is propped up for the camera be worth thousands of dollars? If you want a huge deer head on your wall, I'd bet you can buy one for much cheaper. If you want bragging rights, for that amount of money, I'm sure you could find something much more enertaining to brag about...

      I hear ya Cfort!

If there is a story between 2 people, I have always looked at it this way.

There is One persons story, then there is the other persons story, then there is the truth! So there will always be 3 sides to a story, we just always hope that 1 & 2 = 3

I bet it's not a dead horse to animal rights groups. I bet they use video to fire up there people. I think it should remind us that not all people who purchase a lisence or ethical hunters. Not all ranch owners or outfitters or ethical. I do believe that at some point hunters right will be challenged. These videos or exactly the kind of thing they can put together to hurt us. No matter who is in the dang thing. Purley this is a reflection on us all wether we believe it or not.

He had seen some caribou out about 100 yards and commented to his guide I can aim 20 feet over them and with the wind aim 50 yards to the right. This guy was making me sick. All I could think about during the show was how many caribou out there had arrows sticking out of them and were running around suffering. Just my thoughts and I had to get that off my chest. Don’t feel any better though.
I feel the exact same way about Tred Barta......what a jerk!!!

I am not sure but, if I remember correctly Fish Kissin' Jimmy marketed the video of his hunt at Bellar's under the title "Hunt for the Illusive Illinois Whitetail" ....obviously after viewing this video I saw nothing illusive about it. That's why I no longer watch or buy anything he endorses. You can make your own decision about that...and yes this is old news.

Now you can get back to piling on Jimmy.
Right on....we should side with..... who?

I could care less if it were osama bin laden airing that footage, wrong is wrong, and those types of activites are more of a danger to hunting than PETA ever will be.

Sometimes I think we, as hunters, have too much "unity", because it seems we're always ready to defend anyone who claims to be a hunter or sportsman, and ready to bash anyone that tries to condemn acts (in this case, that should be condemned). Then, since "we" support anyone claiming to be a hunter, the true sportsmen are grouped with these morons, who clearly aren't sportsmen.

Don't be afraid to call a spade a spade... things like this should be banned.

                        Fun thread.

Are you a hunter or a shooter?

Shooter's typically kill whitetail with names and or go to Africa or Kansas to hunt.

Hunter's like to shoot deer on low fenced acres... and the good ones don't bait them and use a bow

That video is down right disturbing but carries a huge message. Like someone said above, this is happening all over Texas. The simple fact that people will buy 100 acres and high fence it to me is absolutely appauling. I know I'm gonna russle some feathers but I hate seeing it. I don't know if there are any guidelines that the state requires for high fencing a property but there needs to be a minimal acreage requirement.

Around 90% of the land in Texas is private land, 90%! And of that 90% how much do you think is high fence game ranches, catering to the rich so they can shoot a "trophy". I'm sorry but it's these types of ranches that will kill hunting for the common working man like myself. I hunt public land because it's what I can afford but most of all because it's the most rewarding. I haven't killed anything with my bow yet but just being allowed by the good Lord to see them is my "trophy".

My wife's family goes to an exotic game ranch in the vicinity of Junction and does their hunting. They call the guy before they go and tell them what they are looking for. The guy then releases them into a 40 acre high fenced pen. Sorry, but thats a "canned hunt".

That makes me sick to my stomach and have no respect for Jimmy Houston as of now.
