    Another bulk protein question

Anyone buying bulk protein and storing it in a silo / feed bin ? I have found a couple of sources who will make the feed for me up in the Muenster area, found a couple of silo manufacturers that will produce and set silo, my question is, how do they get the feed from truck to silo ? I have a bunch of cement silos, we blow the cement powder from tanker into silo, I don't think the grain silos work that way, I figure it is either auger or some type of conveyer, I would not want an auger style system , I think that would be too harsh on the pellets. My next problem is getting the feed from Muenster all the way to Childress, the feed mill that I would prefer to use does not haul over 90 miles, we are about 180 miles, they did tell me that there are some independent haulers but they did not know the cost. It looks like I can save at least 200 - 250 dollars per ton by going this route, we figure that we will feed approx 80 - 100 tons of protein a year, so the silo would pay for itself in the first year. My other concern is if the feed is comparable to the Double Down like we are currently feeding, guess I will just have to compare ingredients, they sure love that DD, hate to switch but money is money, I figure if we going to switch then January would be the time to do it. By chance does anyone know if bulk protein can be found closer to Childress, couple of years back I was talking to a feed source in Quanah, seems like he said there was a place that made it just across the river in Oklahoma, any info or advice would be appreciated, thks.

If you are feeding 80-100 tons, call Johnathan with DoubleDown directly to work out delivery.

I spoke with someone there awhile back, the way it sounded to me they could not save me anymore money that what I am saving by using the super sacks, hauling feed in a feed truck 7 hours was going to be more expensive. Thks

You could try to talk to the ole boy at the medicine mound ranch store in Quanah. Little store front on south side of 287. he sells double down and corn and other hunting/ranch needs.

My few interactions with him the ole boy seemed more than helpful.

He may have been the one I spoke to about bulk protein a year or so ago, if so he is the one who told me about a place in OK that makes it, I will stop in there, been wanting to check the place out. I really like where I buy DD now, Snyders in Childress, those folks have really taken care of me from feed to steel buildings and in between, but dam the cost of DD is just killing us. I noticed he has a big feed bin and I have seen a feed wagon parked there numerous times, it is just like the one I have.

Maybe try C&H Supply in Shamrock, also have a location in McLean.
They sell bulk cattle feed and bagged protein.

I know you said you didn’t want to feed cattle feed, but their 20% in the smaller 3/8” pellet is $11 a bag.

The feed company will augur the protein from their truck to your bin. You will need to let them know how high it is to the top of your bin so they can send a truck that will reach the top. Google feed mills in your area and see what comes up.

Double down is a pretty hot feed. There’s a fair amount of nutrient that passed through if memory serves right on that foods TDN. They’ll eat Tony’s no problem. Tony’s was a touch light on fiber when I checked it out but not enough for me to care.
