If you can, check out the Chena Hot Springs Resort. Its about and hour North East of Fairbanks. You can sit in the hot springs surrounded by snow and watch the Aurora. My wife and I only got a small glimpse of the aurora 1 night, but my kids got a real good show while we were out moose hunting.

Cousin and I were there 9/12 - 9/19. Stayed in Soldotna and made road trips to Homer, Seward and a few other places. We fished our *** off and landed some silvers. Cousin was there a month prior and killed the rainbows. We flew into Anchorage. Funny how quick the run can turn off and on. Our moose count was 12. No bears. Saw otters and sea lions.
I tried my hardest to make him a legal bull, but it wasn't even close.

The fishing guide told us the king salmon run wasn't that great this year, so we didn't get any salmon at all unfortunately. But yes, we saw a ton of wildlife down in Seward as well. my kids loved the otters, sea lions and puffins.

Moose is at the tip top of my bucket list and I've been getting more and more serious about it. Like you, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford a guided trip without the risk of divorce . Thanks for taking us along.

Epic trip!! I am convinced that the trip is always worth more to me than the trophy I could possibly bring home.

Glad you had a fun and safe trip. Bummer, you didn't get a moose or the brownie, but hopefully next trip you can capitalize on both from what you learned on this trip.

That area of the unit you were in has low moose densities compared to other areas in the unit, which makes it tough with a short 10-day season even if you hunt all 10 days and have good weather. Seeing more bears than moose, there's a reason it's a two bear a year bag limit.

we saw bears on several trips but never saw a moose!! We stayed in Sterling on the river for 8 days in early August! Two moose calves walked right past the cabin door while we were on the river one day.

My wife is way too much of a germ freak to get in the hot springs! She does want to get a picture at the antler arch though and the ice carving contest will be going on while we’re there so we’re going to check that out! Plus doing an ice fishing trip for my son and a sled dog ride for my daughter. Long weekend trip with the wife got out of hand quick!!

                        I understand.

My 10 day moose hunt turned into 3 full weeks by the time it was all over. Fortunately we didn’t have a bunch of hotel and rental car costs since we stayed with my sister while we weren’t hunting.

For sure. It’s lit a fire though, I’m already planning on coming back this coming season for caribou and planning a return for moose in 2026. My sister and BIL leave Alaska in 2027 for a new deployment, so I’m trying to get as much time up there as I can while I have some help.
