On my way home from the lease last time I spotted several mesquite trees loaded with mistletoe on the 2 lane road between Graham and Woodson. I had already tagged out but when i returned with my buddy the next week I had him stop and I picked as much as I could get my hands on. We drove in around 9 pm and went to check our game cams and spread the mistletoe. The next morning young bucks continued to hit the corn. The older deer went right past the corn and started eating the mistletoe. I wore rubber gloves when picking and spreading the mistletoe........maybe those of you that have experienced deer not eating it have your scent on the mistletoe. I am sure its like humans .......we do not all like the same things. I did hear a story this year of some hunters finding a doe in a mesquite tree, hung in the V's of a branch. Looks like she was on her back legs getting mistletoe and lost her footing, landing in the V of the tree and hanging herself.
Happy Holidays and be safe driving to and from your hunting grounds.
