Another vote for tree stand if you have the trees to put it in.
I have (and still) hunted out of both, and I just like the greater visibility of the tree stand.

Sure is nice to hunt in those pop-ups when it is raining, though.

If I only one stand, it would be a ground blind.

We are hunting pretty close to your home town (Speaks), and we have both ground blinds and tree stands out. I like hunting out of the tree stands out there better, but it depends on the terrain that you are hunting in. I like the versitility of the ground blinds b/c you can use them anywhere. After all that, if I could only have one, I would get a ground blind.

I love the hunt from a tree or tripod simply because I can see more. But if I really want to kill deer, especially big mature bucks I get on the ground.

I cannot tell you which to choose as you need both in your arsenal. Buy you a double bull and build yourself a six to eight foot tripod (I did for under 80 dollars). You can also build a permanent tree stand or buy a hanger for under 75. Growing up in Lolita and hunting Speaks now, I know your terrain well.

sounds like the ground blinds are the favorite. now you gotta ask which one you should buy, and get ready because there will be 500 diff. answers. go with the double bull, little more money but well worth it.

If you can afford a Double Bull, then get both a tree stand and a ground blind and use the extra money to buy the chair and ground stake and EZ hanger and safety harness and climbing ladder. Then you can hunt both types of terrain.

Find you a big crowning live oak near a trail or funnel. Build a stand in a fork at least 15 ft high and trim out about 3 tunnels to shoot through. Hand throw corn in your shooting lanes. Make sure you leave it thick behind you to hide your silouette. Been doin this for years and never been spotted.

How long does a ground blind need to be in place before it can be used to hunt deer? If you wanted to hunt from a ground blind the day it was setup would it be necessary to brush it in completely?

Leaving my blind on public land is not an option so I would have to set it up for every hunt. I have never used my GB for deer due to the feeling they would pick it out before getting into range.
