    Any outboard mechanics?

I need help/ advise. I bought a 1972 Johnson 50hp long haft outboard from a guy in Katy. He assured me that everything was good but it wasn't. I have great compression but no spark. Anyone know where to find ignition parts?

good luck. old engines used a point system to create a spark. as far as i know points are no longer made. i have 2 1970 motors at home. dont rember what brand they are. you are welcome to rob parts if you need to.

There is a good outboard mechanic out by lake Houston, he specializes in older Outboards, his name is Doyle rice, been a few years since I've used him but he was fair, honest, & had all the parts for my 78 evinrude, try Google maybe

If that '72 model is electric shift I wouldn't waste too much money on it myself.
