Our oldest Brooks who turned 6 this year told me this summer he wanted to shoot his first deer this year. So first order was figuring out what gun I could get him shooting. Decided I wanted him to shoot something with some decent grainage so went with my 6.5 Grendel AR. Slapped a suppressor on it and had him shooting it out of a Bogpod. He was doing very well after several time shooting and I told him he was ready just had to wait on the season to open. Well day before opening day I had accident with a ladder and tore all the ligaments and two tendons in my right ankle. With surgery looming on the horizon we decided momma would drive us to the ranch and drop us off in the stand. Thankfully 13 of our 14 stands are low to the ground so I didn’t have to try and climb anymore ladders. We made two sits and both times the bucks were busy pushing does around and we couldn’t get him on a doe and comfortable before a buck would run her off. Third sit we were about to shoot a doe when a cull I know came running in and pushed all the does off the feeder before coming back for a bite. He made the mistake of standing broadside at 70 yards and I told Brooks to get him. As Brooks would say check out his GINORMUS buck!
