I got a .243 that I would like to change to a .260 Remington. Anyone got any recomendations in in Tyler or DFW area to get it done?

I just did a Savage last week. Swapped from 22-250 to .260, did it myself. I went with a Criterion 26", varmint contour. What kind of rifle you talking?

You can do it but I would let a smith do it so he can replace the recoil lug and set the headspace.

Yeah, on a 700 you need a gunsmith to do it. Savage is pretty easy with a pre-chambered barrel as long as you have gages and know about headspace. All the other actions take tools the average guy doesn't have access to if you really want it done right.

I'm not sure about the DFW area, but really it doesn't cost much to ship it. A rebarrel done right is not cheap, I would find a gunsmith I like and ship it to him, not worry about him being close. Don't risk quality just because the guy is close. Find one that builds the kind of rifle you like, most gunsmiths have certain things they specialize in, and are known for their work in those particular fields.

What style rifle are you wanting to have built?

Sheilen will do it if you buy their barrel, last one I had done was a quick turn around. There is also a thread about a month ago with a number if rifle smiths recomended.

If your going to spend the coin the get it set up in a new caliber, go ahead and get a quality barrel and blueprinting done. Well worth the money.

Garland Gilbreth, Triple G Gunsmithing, Stephenville, Texas, is one of the best at custom barrel work. He has done several for me and friends.
