It depends on how far you will be shooting. If you are attempting to shoot long range and will be dialing turrets get something better. I'd never do CDS.

I only plan to hunt between 75 - 300 yards with a semi auto

I’ve been very happy with the freedom vx models so I know you would like that scope

A CDS should be accurate enough up to around 500 yards for target shooting. 300 yards should be no issue for hunting.

I am not an illuminated reticle fan. It makes too much contrast for me in low light and actually makes it harder for me to see. I like just a good heavy duplex in low light like mentioned above.

I didn't realize I could have got a 4-20 for my lever gun with it. Being that it will be used in normal light it might have been nice for quickly getting on target.

I have 2 and love them. One is illuminated. If you don’t like it, don’t turn it on. I like the cds system. I’m not a long range shooter but like the fact that the guess work is taken out of it.

I'm in the strong minority here I'm sure, but Leupold's track like absolute garbage. It's a roll of the dice with sighting in with 4 scopes over 25 years.

Nightforce SHV illuminated for the win.

                        Your mileage may vary.

I have 4.5-14x40 CDS with the standard duplex. I shot s mule deer at 479 yards a couple weeks ago.. I am by no means a long range shooter, it was actually the first animal I had shot with a rifle in about twelve years. I sent the info in to leupold, and sighted it in. It seemed to work alright.

I’ve had 3 in last 10 years and they are dead on every season. 1 fixed 6x and 2 are 4x14-40 with 30mm tube. Love the Gold Ring.

Most people just don’t have the experience to know any better.
