Yes it was. Teeth were pretty worn and even missing a few.

my Daughter shot her first deer that morning, and my 10 year old son was up next. He had his heart set on a big six point we saw a few weekends back.

the evening sit was a little slow, only saw 1 small buck before the sun started to set.

just as the sun started to go behind the horizon to my left, my sons says “ Badger! Badger!” I look for it, but can’t see him due to the glare of the sun. Eventually I find him moving in the cactus about 40 yards away. The badger eventually moves out of sight.

just as all this is going on my son looks out the right had window and he whispered “ Buck”. It was the big six point he wanted. And he walked right under our stand. Litterally 2 ft for the legs of the stand. He keeps walking down the road towards the feeder and stops for just a second as the badger reappears from the cactus. The buck walk towards the feeder 125 yards away, but cuts off into the brush on the left just before. I told my son let’s get set up and wait to the buck to step out again. Meanwhile the badger lays down in the cactus patch and takes a nap for atleast 15 minutes. It’s getting close to dark and my son now wants to shoot the badger. I told him he could, but that means that buck will take off and you will have to wait another day for the deer.

He wants the badger. The badger pokes his head up at 38 yards and my son shot. DRT!

He has been talking about getting a badger for a few years out there.
They are beautiful animals...congratulations to you Son!

As others have said I have never seen a live badger in the woods. That is really cool he got one. Post your full body mount badger.

Your son has good instinct. He may not know it yet, but you shoot badgers when the opportunity arises. We had one living about a hundred yards from the house that was a prolific hole digger. I've seen him, and my grandson walked up on him while deer hunting. Instead of shooting, he called to ask if it was alright to shoot. That was a couple of years ago. The badger is still out there digging holes all over the place.

I like his decision making skills! The deer will be back.

Very Cool! I shot one a few weeks ago with my pistol but he made it into a cactus patch and down his hole.

                            How'd that thing smell?

Surprisingly not bad. The one I shot a few years ago was pretty rank, this one there was hardly any smell.
