Poll: What is this?

I'm thinking deer and that is not a tail. Just a weird "shadow" created by the camera from the leg. The shape of the "tail" is exactly the same as that leg.

Ok I now think it's not a cat or a canine after playing with resolution and studying it from a different perspective. Pretty sure it's two different deer.

Edit: Nevermind, I changed my mind again. The leg anatomy just isn't right for a deer.

At first I thought "probably lion", but after the pic was blown up it is definitely canine due to the leg structure.

Out of those that think it's canine, I'm just curious if you believe there are never actual cougars (not the black variety that hang out with Bigfoot) that pass through parts of East Tx. I have met guys that are adamant that they just aren't here.

I fully believe there is a possibility of a mountain lion being in any part of Texas at any time. But in this case, not a great picture, just a portion of the animal seen, the correct answer is usually the most obvious answer. Could be wrong, but the op asked for our opinion. That's what I gave my opinion of what I see, which is worth about as much as I've been paid for it.

That would be the shortest tail I've ever seen on a Mt Lion....

Shot a youngish male last January and he has a very short tail, even the biologist commented on it when we checked him in. No damage to the bone or scars, just a very short tail with a small black tip.

The extreme blow up of it makes me think not mt lion but pixels can get distorted.
