1st Kill With New 6mm ARC

Finally, I decided to give modern cartridges a try. I bought a Howa 1500 Mini (wood) in 6mm ARC. It's a cute little booger with no recoil and is lightweight to tote. The only downside has been that factory ammo is limited, particularly for anything dedicated as a hunting bullet, so I'll reload for it. As far as a performance report, I can't really provide one for the cartridge due to the lackluster of my performance in the shot. I hit much further forward than I would have liked, but the deer ran about 40 - 50 yards and dropped. I'd say that overall, I like the cartridge's performance and the gun's feel.

Bad little round. We shoot hornady match eld-m ammo for target and hunting. Have killed hundreds of pigs with them.

          Way to go!

Is your wooden stocked Howa a thin or heavy barrel? Been wanting to get a wood stocked Mini, but don’t want the thin barrel.

I’m a fan of the 6 Arc too. Bought one for my wife a couple years ago. Both she and I have taken numerous deer with it. Furthest being 385 yds on a big bodied cull buck.

Hers is the Savage Switchback with the semi heavy barrel. We’re getting 2830 fps with 105 grain Bergers and Leverevolution powder. Can’t remember what the load was but I do remember it was a little above max. Think I could have gone hotter if I wanted, the brass was flawless. That little round is devastating on deer.

Nice buck congrats! What ammo did you use? Or was it a reload?

Factory load. I think they only offer 3 options, 2 of those are marketed as target loads. I went with the hornady hunting version. I'll reload as well. The Howa 1500 Mini that I got has like a semi heavy barrel. It's a sweet little carbine.

Hey Buddy, ain’t seen you post in a while.

I don’t have one, but judging by my Grendel, I’d guess a little more than a 22-250. Even the Grendel has minimal recoil.

Recoil is quite minimal. Well suited for folks not interested in a kick. Don't think anyone of any size would have a problem with it. Store bought ammo selection is limited.

I’m still around. Just been busy with my kiddos activities! I’ve got a 224 Valkyrie they use and for a 22 caliber pushing 88 grain ELD-M’s, it does surprisingly well laying down pigs and deer but I still feel like I need something a little bigger.
