    Prostate Issue

Well on my way to MD Anderson to consult with the team. I’ve been dealing with enlarged prostate gland for years. Have regular checks every 3-6 months. Even had the rotor rooter about ten years ago. I feared this day would arrive. MRI revealed a few lesions that were suspected as high probability. Kinda pzzed off my urologist when I told him I’d rather go to MD Anderson. I just don’t feel comfortable with Corpus doctors when they start talking cancer. Hoping for a positive outcome. Guys get your prostate checked often. Early detection is most important, I hope.

Been 20 years since I went thru this so I may not be up to day on treatment options. Keep this in mind. Surgeons do surgery. I personally had brachytherapy.

Biopsy along with MRI and various scans will give a complete picture of what's going on. Doctors will use this data to recommend specific treatment options for you if needed. I had Brachytherapy followed by radiation. Hoping the best for you.

Had a radical prostatectomy August 20th at 47 years of age. I'm one of the lucky ones who got cancer way before it was supposed to be a thing. Either way, it was an interesting journey up to that conclusion, had the infusion MRI, biopsy with genetic testing, PET scan, etc..... Let me know if you have any questions regarding treatment options, surgery questions, etc.... I've learned more about this than what I ever wanted to. Good luck.

Prayers spoken for you this morning.

I am facing the same. I have been on active surveillance since 2021. I have two lesions. My first two biopsies indicated a Gleason score of 3+3=6 group 1 which is considered low risk. The Decipher test (genome) in 2021 also indicated low risk/non aggressive. My 3rd biopsy this past September indicated one of two lesions has progressed to 3+4=7 group 2 which is intermediate risk. The other lesion remained 3+3=6 group 1 low risk. My PSA has gone from 4.2 to 5.2 in the last 6 months. I am waiting on results from my second genome test. I am trying to decide if I want to stay on active surveillance or start treatment. If I go with treatment I am considering Proton Beam Therapy. Since we live in rural Iowa I will have to go to University of Kansas Cancer Center in Kansas City or the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for Proton Beam Therapy.

Good luck to you! I had consults with both a radiation oncologist as well as my surgeon. My wife (who is an RN) and I went into both consults thinking surgery was gonna be a no brainer but after meeting with the radiation oncologist we both left there thinking there is really some positive aspects of radiation therapy. Ultimately both docs agreed that surgery given my age and specific case would be the recommended standard of care from any leading cancer center. I opted with surgery but I'm telling you what, they can do some really amazing things with radiation thearapy. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I just went through this at MD Anderson over the last few months. I ended up for my treatment plan to be 5 radiation treatments I completed on the 10/14. They performed the external proton therapy and it was smooth sailing in my case. There is a new test out that they can test your biopsy to see if you are required to have hormone therapy along with the other treatments. I had this test ran and it indicated it wouldn’t be beneficial to have it in my specific case. Thank goodness no hot flashes. lol
A couple of things I would suggest.
If they chose for you to go the infusion route mri and they offer to put you under to perform this procedure I would suggest going under anesthesia. There were two types procedures they offered on the mri and I think this is the one they offer to put you under. I didn’t chose to be put under but should have. 😳
I will pm you my number if you have any questions that I could assist with.
If you go to MD websites there are a list of hotels in the immediate area that will give you a significant discount if you let them know you are an md Anderson patient. There is one place called the Rotary House that is connected to MD tryst they say is decent, clean etc. I haven’t stayed at the rotary house myself but others I have talked to said it is decent. We usually stay at the Marriot at times.
              prayers up for you.

Sorry to hear. I completed proton radiation in 2021 at Loma Linda. I went to MDA too, cause I wasn't messing around with San Antonion doctors. Unfortunately, insurance at the time would not cover proton radiation and MDA was prohibitively expensive to self-pay. Loma Linda, who was amount the first to do proton radiation for prostate, was much more affordable as cash pay. They were also very helpful and kept resubmitting to insurance after treatment was completed. Insurance eventually paid more than my out-of-pocket costs so, I got all my money back and the hospital got some more too. Feel free to contact me if you want to talk about it.

Mine followed the same path. I chose the proton treatment. I was very happy with Loma Linda in California. It's worth checking out, if you have to travel anyway.

Ditto, let them put you under anytime they offer I did the MRI at MDA and the **** probe has to be left over from medieval torture devices.

I’m a MD Anderson Alumni too. 14 years ago at age 50. Robotic Prostectomy. My surgeon was Dr. Pisters…

Also had kidney cancer 3 years ago and went back there for robotic surgery. Doctors here in Waco wouldn’t even consider removing the tumor until it grew some more. MD Anderson took 10% of my kidney and I’m all good.

Was there last Sunday for my annual follow up.

You made the right decision to go there for treatment options.

Prayers for a good outcome for you…

I’ve been under observation for several years now but so far nothing has changed yet.

You are not chitting about that medieval times comment.

Truth! I will never have another biopsy done while I’m awake. Definitely archaic and medieval torture.
