so these days bobcats, badger, foxes get a pass unless they become a nuisance to the house or dogs.
badgers eat skunks and snakes and are cool to see also
I see you don't like quail

I killed one that I ended up giving to the taxi because of the cost to mount.

I've only ever seen one, but saw it multiple times on a lease I was on near Ozona. Couldn't bring myself to shoot it as it may be the only one I ever see. Cool looking critter. He was a regular at one of my stands.

You will have to ask my taxi. I have no idea!

ive wanted to come across one for a long time but havent been lucky. sounds like they arent hard to find if youve got one in your area, corn and/or a call sounds like it would work.

I shot one about 15 years ago never had seen one before. I wish I’d had it mounted.

I called up one with a dying rabbit predator mouth call once.
He came within a few feet of my buddy and I and it wouldn’t leave. That was near Pleasanton.
I don’t shoot that one either.

I have passed on shooting a few of them, I'd rather have them out there dealing havoc on the rattlesnakes than sitting on my mantel!

lol there have always been foxes, bobcats, badgers, quail started a massive decline when people started wiping out native pasture land and changing habitat, introducing fire ants and hogs
love quail and really hate to see modern day farm and ranch practices being used to destroy quail

Badgers & porcupines both can be found around Cross Plains, just SE of Abilene in West Texas. Had a Rottweiler/Dobermann cross farm dog that killed one of each. She suffered both times but prevailed. Learned early on to NOT sic her on anything I didn't want killed. Yet was the best dog around kids I ever owned.

I snared this one and had it mounted with a rattlesnake biting him as he is biting the rattlesnake. Click image for larger version

I shot one back in 2015 that had a hole behind the feeder I was sitting at. Had a thread on it back then actually... Crazy to think that was 10 years ago. Back then I'd only seen a couple badgers in my life, but sense then I've spent a good bit of time hunting South Texas and they seem to be more common down there.

I've shot 100+ badgers. See them a lot where I'm at. Saw a big one hit on the highway two weeks ago and a smaller one the following week. I don't have one mounted. I always sell them to the fur buyer. Now days the only value they really have is the skull so you can't shoot them in the head if you plan on selling them. That takes the value out of them quite a bit. They're easy to come by so I just never thought of getting one mounted. They are cool lookin animals though.

I usually shoot at least a few every year. Shot one a few months ago that was tearing up a guys yard. He was mowing and drove his mower off in one of those holes. Guess it jarred him pretty good and he thought he tore his mower up. I need to go try to kill the one out at the cemetery. It dug a big hole under my buddies headstone. They're kinda cool but they're a pain when it comes to that kind of stuff. They're about like an armadillo on steroids when it comes to digging up stuff.

I’ve had one run in with a badger about 20 years ago when I was turkey hunting. We both came to an agreement and went our separate ways. He was huge but he’s the only one I have ever seen alive so I didn’t have anything to judge him by. Cool animals though.

Very cool, did y’all end up doing the mount with the horny toad?
