Feel Gypped - Lake Granger TPWD blows! Or the Army Corp of ENGR

Talking with a buddy of mine about doing a hog hunt at Granger. He tells me we can't until Jan, and then shows me archery for hogs is closed until Jan.

Feel like something I used to get a great benifit from with the APH just got taken away from me.

What slays me is hunting for small game is wide open, so why exclude archery for hogs?

I'd like to know if this was TPWD's idea, or the idea of the Id-10-T Lake Granger Manger for the Army Corp of Engineers.

So look forward to my youngest getting out of college, so I can look for my own piece of Texas.

Applogies if this was a rant. Just not right.

That's weird....unless something changed big time it's always been open year round for hog hunting.

TPWD doin what TPWD does. Takes as much in fees as they can then figures out how to give you as little value back as possible.

The last time I hunted there I bought the license and right after heard they JUST did a big helicopter hog hunt all over it. I was like *** why wasn't I told that? LOL
In case anyone wants to know, the day after a heli hunt the hogs are not around.

They have a ton of problems with poachers out there and the hog hunters tend to mess the up the deer hunts out there. Dont worry, you can still hog hunt it 9 months out of the year.

Have the hogs even been coming back yet? I feel like most of 2023 and into spring 24, they had gone elsewhere.

Defo one of tpwd’s biggest current faults is the lack of archery opportunities for hogs in the lake granger area, this lack of attention will be wrote about for decades to come

A trend overall. The more the public needs access to hunting. The more it is being micromanaged down. TPWD way of making their jobs easier is to reduce the number of people actually using it.

Same trend in the state parks. Huge long list of things you can't do and places you can't go.

Its not going to improve unless enough pressure is applied to the right politicians.

I was under the impression that it was closed during deer season for draw hunts. I don't know, haven't hunted out there in 20 years or so but that's how I remember it used to be.

Pretty sure that this is the case. Did you try to contact TPW or COE about it?

The past 3 or 4 years, it's been open year-round. When I first heard they were closing hog hunting during deer season this year, it just seemed natural they're doing it for the deer hunters who won the draw. I know I personally walked up on some deer hunters set up in stands during deer season while I was hog hunting, so I get it.
