Dallas Mavericks Official 24/25 Season Thread

It's officially under way. New ownership, new TV deal, can they get back to the finals? Hardaway is gone and Klay is here. Luka is Luka.

Impressive start last night. Klay goes 6 for 10 from 3 point range for 22 points in 26 minutes. Love the two young centers returning. They dispatch the spurs fairly easily. Let's go!

Good to see this thread. Good game last night I hope they can keep up better with stronger opponents. OKC looked really good last night as well and destroyed the Nuggets.

Unfortunately I only really got to watch the 3rd Quarter last night but the addition of Klay was looking GREAT!!

I only casually follow the NBA but, did Jerry Jones take over the Mavericks or something?

They trade away Luka due to conditioning and injury issues for a guy who has the nickname “street clothes” because he’s always injured for the Lakers (and is currently injured)? And the 1st rd pick they get is for 2029? The Mavs got fleeced!!

I’m glad NBA basketball is my least favorite major sport to watch …. It’s going to be ugly around here for awhile

Wow - Nico has some explaining to do! I guess he didn’t think Luka was worthy of the “super max” contract he would likely get later this year. Mavericks fans are gonna be beside themselves

Trading a problem for a problem. Talented problems, but problems. IMO, and probably on my opinion only, Luka is a huge waste of talent. The guy clearly some ‘all time great’ level skill. But he is never in NBA level physical condition, which - again my opinion - causes his health issues. Opposing teams literally hunt him on the Mavs defensive end of the floor to take advantage of his defensive deficiencies. And that’s if he even makes it to the defensive end of the floor. He’s steadily complaining to game officials about his perceived mistreatment by the opposition. I don’t know. I see the talent. But I also see that there is so much more. If he got in shape, and got his mind right he could be so much better. If he put the effort into his NBA career that he puts into his Tank Commander game he would be a monster. Maybe skip one summer of playing international ball and dedicate himself working on things like speed, quickness, and strength?

Again, I see the talent, but I think the guy is wasting his talent. I know that sounds crazy given the highlight reel you could put together of ‘Luka Magic’ highlights. But that’s what I think. We’ll see…

It's embarrassing to trade a guy that young after making it to the finals. Unless he knows something about his injury that is going to be career long. The 1st round pick received won't even be a decent one.

Nico may have jumped the shark.

They finally got rid of the cancer. They will be a better team without him

Crazy trade to me. From a Lakers perspective, I wish they would have included LeBron James and his son!

I was shocked! But who knows??? I have seen the team look better without him, even though he is an amazing talent. LeBron may make him get his azz is shape. Lol

Luka is 25 years old with a finals appearance, a WCF appearance and 5 time all star. Davis is almost 32, Kyrie Irving almost 33 and Klay about to turn 35 Hard to see this as a win any way I try to look at it. Guess we will see but this looks like potentially the worst NBA trade I’ve ever seen.
