    Where was that city coyote?

A friend in north Dallas sent me a photo of one in his backyard recently.

I’m going dog. A yote looking dog but it has long stride happy lookin face and it’s striding down the sidewalk which is a behavior city dogs do not yotes in the middle of the day.

If it looks like a yote, it must be a yote!

I've seen yotes cruising the sidewalks in Dallas on Walnut Hill in the daytime. You would be surprised what all is in town.

Bet nextdoor is calling it a mountain lion.
Oh don't get me started. Apparently we've had mountain lions, Bigfoot, Pterodactyls swooping down eating people's pets. I honestly had to explain to one woman that no she in fact did not see a black panther laying on her tailgate.

This picture and thread remind me of a hunt many years ago.

Pretty slow morning until I hear a commotion behind me and 4-5 deer show up. They only pause for a few seconds, run past me & keep going.

About a minute later, the cause of the commotion shows up - two animals that looks very much like the one in the picture. Coyotes running deer......

A few seconds later the two are in front of me and of course I never pass a shot on a coyote. I draw and put an arrow though the 1st one and he's done pretty quick, doesn't go anywhere.

The second one then offers a shot, but doubt starts to creep in - is he acting like a coyote should act, or more like a dog? I couldn't decide, but thought maybe I'd messed up, I better let him go.

I sat in that stand for another hour, with nothing else to look at besides the dead coyote/dog in front of me. For most of that hour I was still convinced it was a coyote.

Whatever it was, I needed to move it away from my tree stand. Up until the time I decided to check for a collar, I was thinking coyote.

Then I found the collar - oops! Can't take that back.

Drug him a few hundred yards through a field to the next woods and deposited him in a root wad hole from a downed tree.

I was kind of young & not super experienced at the time-and of course felt like a total idiot. Who can't tell a dog from a coyote?

The landowner was my best friends dad.

I was around him a few months later and the topic of a couple of wild dogs, that had been terrorizing his grandkids came up.

He said that there had been two and he was determined to kill them. Finally when he got his chance, there was only 1, but he got it.

He took it out to the woods, saw a root wad hole from a downed tree and dumped it - when he saw that there was already a rotting animal in that same hole and it looked a lot like the one he'd killed!

Naturally, that was when I said, yeah I killed the other one bowhunting not that long ago-thought it was a coyote.

He was a little surprised, but said Thanks, those animals had to go - one less for me to kill! Then he said, 'I can tell why you thought it was a coyote, I kind of thought that too'!

I did feel much better after that!

In the 30 years or so since, I've killed several coyotes-and they were all even coyotes!

I just thought it was ironic & amusing that the landowner & I chose the same spot to dump the dead dogs - there were plenty of places to choose from!

It could be either one or a coydog. In town, probably a heeler mix.

I got so tired of seeing posts about people freaking out over bobcats because they wanted to build houses in the bobcats domain. There were so many posts I finally started posting pictures of Bobcat front end loaders being trailerd through the area just to pissss them off. They finally stopped.
