First Frost of the Year Here

We had our first frost of the year this morning here in SE Iowa. There weather apps were showing temps around 38 to 40 but it's always colder down here in our creek bottom. I guess we will have to pick the remaining tomatoes today. Click image for larger version

Must be nice! I love TX but sure would like to live somewhere cooler. It was 90 degrees and sweat was in full effect yesterday evening. It was at least bearable this morning up a tree at 63. Can't wait til the first frost.

We're still 7-8 weeks away from average first freeze around here - can't wait. Like a kid waiting on Christmas.

It was 91 here Saturday with 35-40 mile and hour winds out of the south that were sucking up towards the cold front. This little cold front passed thru Saturday night. It's going to warm up again this week.

I'd be all over those tomatoes to be getting them in the fryer!

Not yet. I usually start around October 20th and then evening only. I will start hunting mornings around Halloween. I got a friend up here that's 83 years old. He has a whole wall of 160 to 200 inch bucks.... mainly from back when Iowa deer hunting was insanely good...... before the hunting shows, the Internet, outfitters everywhere, non-residents (like me)🤷moving in, leasing, etc, etc. Anyway he says "Why educate him or spook him out of your area on October 5th when you can go in and kill him on November 5th."

I pretty much adhere to his theory. Most outfitters up here won't even book a hunt until late October.
