Got to the deer lease and the camper A/C wouldn’t fire up. I can hear the motor trying to spin, so it’s getting power. I reached up and spun the impeller with my hand and it felt like bearings were bad (almost felt like there was grit or something). I assume that’s a bad motor? Can I just change out the motor itself if that’s the case, or do I need to replace the whole unit? I’m hoping to not have to drag this thing into town and wait an eternity for a dealership to wrench on it if at all possible.

Usually it’s one motor that turns a shaft with a squirrel cage (blower) fan on one end, and a propeller style (condenser) fan on the other. Sometimes the bearing on the motor gets dry or gummed up and just needs some erl. I think you can replace that fan motor though, if it’s out.
if you have to replace the whole unit, you can do it yourself in 45 minutes.Last edited by Dale Moser; 10-04-2024, 02:25 PM.

Go on top and pull top cover/ foam inserts, have done alot that the foam failed/ binded or critters have built inside and will have somewhat same symptoms. Make a note of the fan end jam screw or clamp style. Some of the ones ordered will have a different end if whoever is ordering doesn't see that they are available with different ones

I had my motor freeze up a few months back when we were getting 100 degree days. I kept spraying oil on the bearings and spinning the squirrel cage and it started working right again, but had to do this many times over the summer. But I did order a new motor and replaced it a few weeks ago. The old bearings were extremely rusty. I did replace the capacitors while the cover was off.
