I just registered a vehicle, paid for inspection prior, and on the registration there was a $7.50 "inspection fee".......I guess the state jumped the gun prior to Jan 1st and already now charging the "inspection fee" and not doing inspections. They will continue to charge the $7.50 inspection fee even though there is no actual inspection and goes straight to the state. New vehicles will pay a $16.75 "inspection program replacement fee"........This is ridiculous......the $7.50 is split between the Texas Mobility fund ($3.50) the General fund ($2) and the Clean Air Account ($2)........doing us a favor by not having to go to the inspection station and still pay for it..........that's government for you.

I do my own inspection on my travel trailer now (love it!) and they charge me the inspection fee. I JOKINGLY told the clerk I wanted the fee since I did the inspection. She lit into me and told me if I didn't like it to take it up with the state! And I do mean aggressively! She must get that comment a lot.
Lesto!!

It’s fine….we used to be able to skip the inspection by advising vehicles were out of state, then they changed the rule and started wanting us to bring all of our Texas registered vehicles out of Florida every year for a physical inspection.
its a 14 hour drive, one way, for some of them….so a few have been sitting until January without paying for the registration.
