My friend is from North Carolina. He's trained in first response/aid is planning to drive out there in a couple days to help his friend at a local FD. For those of you that have done first response work with Harvey/etc on the coast, what were some underappreciated high value items we could send with him? I'm assuming a good chainsaw is way up the list. Got my local crew trying to contribute some funds and supplies, and I'm trying to see how best to squeeze max impact out of whatever he can fit in his rig.

That said and as LE, dont expect him to get much help from local law enforcement. 90% of the rescues and boat rides I was a part of during harvey was just driving around with a carvan of boats and just getting in the water. Wayyyyy too much thinking and asking and not enough just get your *** out there and work. Hopefully he wont see that due to all the smaller areas without big resources.

Worked Harvey as part of a veterinary response team. Bug spray, sun screen, bottled water, rechargeable cell phone charger (couple of these are nice if you’re in the field all day), good PFD, hip boots or waders, good hat and sunglasses, good knife, duct tape and electrical tape… just some of the items

I would say the accessories to the general items were a big plus. Chainsaws are great, but when you're cutting up lumber with nails and wire and shingles etc. the chains get dull really quick. I'd recommend several 2+ chainsaw chains with each chainsaw. Luckily during Harvey there was a dealer that setup shop and was servicing chainsaws, and sharpening chains while you waited. Also, battery powered sawzalls with multiple blades and batteries would be useful, cutting pliers, crowbars, nail pullers, fubars (demo tools) come in handy.
